Joined the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2013 after serving in the United Kingdom government as a Member of Parliament from 2001-13 and as the 74th Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from 2007-10. Since joining the IRC, has expanded IRC’s humanitarian response efforts into more than 40 war-affected countries. Notably, has helped IRC lead the way in building innovative and creative public and private partnerships to further its humanitarian response work. Most recently, the IRC, in partnership with Sesame Street, won the 100&Change McArthur Foundation grant to launch a new Arabic-Language Sesame Street with the aim to provide refugee children with early childhood education materials.
