Global challenges, including the pandemic, climate change and economic growth, require business and government to respond quickly to changing conditions. Emerging technologies form a critical part of this response, however our traditional governance models fail to provide the agility and coordination required to harness the potential of these technologies. Excessively prescriptive regulations can crowd out innovation and experimentation and slow down our ability to respond to future shocks. The Global Future Council on Agile Governance brought together leading experts from business and government to drive regulatory reform that unleashes innovation and drives economic growth. The council developed a playbook of agile regulatory techniques (e.g. regulatory sandboxes) which it used to build individual capacity through new training modules. It also elevated thought leadership and applications for agile governance, by showcasing the work of the top 50 global agile leaders and providing roadmaps for agile tools including the use of Regulatory Technologies (‘RegTech’).
