Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is a government commercial bank that began as an agricultural development bank. To increase client reach and profits, microfinance products and services were introduced to low income clients in 1984. At present, services are offered in Indonesia through an independent microfinance unit to both rural and urban clients.
