Shaping the Future of International Trade and Investment

Trade tensions continue to shape markets. Although international commerce has historically helped lift hundreds of millions out of poverty, many today feel left behind, while business faces uncertainty. Others question whether global production and consumption systems can be aligned with sustainability objectives.

Businesses, governments and citizens must work together to craft policies and practices that will allow international trade to benefit humanity and the planet in the 21st century. The Platform for International Trade and Investment aims to inform business and policy debate on critical issues and drive practical collaborative steps for growth and development.

Core areas in focus include: trade tensions and reform; digital trade, investment and trade facilitation; and global tax and competition cooperation. Activities run through the Platform are ongoing across all continents. Discover more on our work and how you can get involved through the individual project pages below.

The World Economic Forum Trade Platform is also active in international policy forums, including the G20 and in Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) processes. Our Global Future Council on International Trade and Investment, meanwhile, brings together 20 thought leaders to drive debate on upgrading global economic cooperation.

The Platform is also a founding partner of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation along with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Center for International Private Enterprise, a major multistakeholder programme between five donor governments and multiple businesses to design and implement trade facilitation projects in emerging markets.
